Biosecurity Fumigation

Fumigation is a vital part of biosecurity in Australia

Precision Pest Control is a Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries (DAFF) Approved treatment provider.

Biosecurity is about protecting Australia’s people, animals, plants and environment from pests and diseases. It includes striving to prevent new pests and diseases from entering the country, and helping to control outbreaks when they do occur. This includes controlling pests such as the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) and drywood termites.

We can service any premises that are Australian Biosecurity approved to allow treatments on-site. Please note that treatment times may vary, due to factors including:

  • type of commodity

  • packing configuration
  • weather.

Brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB)

BMSB is exotic to Australia. These shield-shaped marbled bugs can grow up to 17 mm long. They are a problem because they eat crops and ornamental plants and become a nuisance in homes and buildings.

BMSB are found in Asia, North America, Europe, Oceania and South America. They can be spread by hitchhiking on imported goods, including personal items, machinery, vehicles, boats and aircraft shipped on sea cargo.

The risk to Australia is high. Precision Pest Control can help take BMSB seasonal measures to manage the risk. More than 300 agricultural and ornamental plant species could be affected, and our way of life changed.

This exotic stink bug is similar in appearance to native stink bug species. However, it could devastate crops and ornamental plants and could quickly become a smelly nuisance if it is established in Australia.

Other hitchhiker pest treatments

Precision Pest Control offers specialised treatment services for other hitchhiker pests including:

Drywood termites

The drywood termite is more selective in its food choices, preferring to feed on the wood in your home. They commonly infest furniture, flooring and other wooden objects.

Drywood termites active in Queensland:

  • Cryptotermes brevis (West Indian drywood termite).
  • Cryptotermes primus (native drywood termite).

Drywood termites

Characteristics of drywood termites:

  • Do not need contact with the soil.
  • Only require the moisture to be present in the timber.
  • Can enter a property through flying or infected timber or furniture brought into the property.
  • Colonies are smaller than subterranean termite colonies.
