Cockroach control tips

The Australian cockroach and the American cockroach are common pests found in urban environments in Sydney. Their presence can quickly become a serious problem for homeowners, but also be a serious health risk for those in the commercial food industry as cockroaches can contaminate food and so cause irreparable damage to the credibility of a business.

Some simple tips you can use to reduce the risk of a cockroach infestation are:

  • Inspect your home or business for signs of cockroach activity such as droppings, dead cockroaches or egg cases.
  • Make sure to clean any surfaces used in food preparation or production.
  • Reduce possible water supplies such as leaking taps or showers.

The Australian cockroach is not commonly found indoors but will be found where temperatures are high, can be brought in on indoor plants and may be found everywhere American cockroaches – which look similar – are active. The American cockroach prefers dark, moist areas near food sources, including masonary block voids, and can travel in areas above drop ceilings. The males can be attracted to artificial light.
